The Western Colorado Gardening Foundation’s (WCGF) mission is: To promote funding for public and not for profit horticultural projects, to promote water resource conservation, and to foster the successful and environmentally sound gardening practices that protect and beautify our environment in Western Colorado. The WCGF accepts grant applications in accordance with its articles and bylaws, grant making policies and procedures, and with the Internal Revenue Code as amended from time to time. The WCGF is a pass-through grant entity, accepting grant applications for horticultural and water-wise programs and activities. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $10,000.
GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS How to apply: Submit a one-page initial inquiry letter including organization’s mission statement, history, project purpose, total project cost and amount of funding requested. Inquiry letter must be on letterhead and also include the phone, fax, email and name of contact person. Selected applicants will then be requested to submit complete details. Attachments related to the application are then accepted.
WCGF Sponsored Grants – ● $10,000 for the Mesa County Arboretum At The Gardens from The Bacon Family Foundation. ● $20,802 for the Mesa County Arboretum At The Gardens from the Colorado Garden Show, Inc., Denver, CO. ● $1,750 for The Tree House for landscape improvements from the Colorado Garden Show, Inc., Denver, CO. ● $3,000 to the Town of Palisade, CO for Riverbend Park Landscaping Project from the Colorado Tree Coalition. ● $500 for Orchard Mesa Middle School; $800 for Orchard Mesa Middle School; $500 for Orchard Mesa Middle School; all from the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association over three years for landscape improvements and tree plantings. ● $10,000 from the Colorado Garden Show, Inc., Denver, CO. ● $500 to Wingate Neighborhood Park Project from the Western Colorado Community Foundation. Historical WCGF Grants awarded – ● Granted $500 to the new Delta Memorial Hospital to purchase trees for rooftop respite gardens. ● Granted $500 to Western Colorado Botanical Society for plant identification signs in the gardens. ● Granted $100 for the purchase of seven shrubs at the Western Slope Vietnam Memorial gardens in Fruita, CO. ● Granted $250 to Orchard Mesa Middle School to purchase Phase II tree plantings. ● Granted $1,000 to the Colorado Desert Herb Society to build a herb garden fence. The herb gardens are located adjacent to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens. ● Granted $450 to Girl Scouts of Chipeta Council to replace pond pump in Outdoor Activity Center located at 580 24-1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO. ● Granted $200 to Paonia Tree Board to purchase trees for parks in Paonia, CO.
