Note: The Foundation's emphasis has changed and is no longer seeking "members" or having meetings. 


Not everyone wants to get involved in the same way.  On this page we  present
different options to encourage others to get involved in our cause.
 
Volunteer Your Time
 
Volunteer your time and energy to help establish this new organization. Choose an activity from the following list. Then e-mail Sylvia Sharpe to offer your help.

Events:

bulletPlan and conduct educational and special training events for members.
bulletPlan and conduct social activities to promote a cohesive membership.

Fundraising:

bulletPlan and conduct fundraising events for the Foundation.
bulletDevelop and distribute printed materials soliciting contributions to the Foundation.
bulletSolicit donations (both money and "in kind") from individuals and businesses in western Colorado.

Grant Applications:

bulletResearch the availability of and the procedures for applying to obtain grants from other organizations in support of the Foundation's programs.
bulletPrepare and submit grant applications to obtain additional funds to support the Foundation's programs.

Educational:

bulletDevelop and conduct educational, informative events for the general public.
bulletDevelop and conduct programs for youth in the communities served (in the public schools or otherwise.)
bulletDevelop a roster of available speakers for meetings and educational events.

Projects:

bulletPlan and carry out projects (such as a demonstration garden or the landscaping of a public facility.)
bulletEvaluate and process applications for funding by the Foundation of other organization's projects.

Publicity:

bulletProduce press releases to advertise the activities of the Foundation and to promote an awareness of the Foundation among the general public in western Colorado; and otherwise work with the media in order to obtain "free publicity" for the Foundation and its activities and programs.
Make a Donation
 
The Foundation has 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Contributions to the WCGF are deductible by contributors on their tax returns.
 
Get involved in a Special Project
 
Some projects have been suggested by members of the local gardening community for WCGF to pursue.
bulletCreate a program to introduce horticulture in the school system to educate and provide guidance for good gardening practices to children.
bulletGet involved with the landscaping of the Vietnam War Memorial in Fruita.
bulletPursue gardening projects in Delta, Montrose and Mesa County.
bulletWrite a grant for the CSU Cooperative Extension to acquire the funds to build a storage facility and workshop.
bulletRaise funds to construct a gazebo in the gardens at the CSU Cooperative Extension office.
bulletExpand the Master Gardener library.
bulletProduce a gardening tips pamphlet for this area.
