December
4th, 2005

At our December 4th, Holiday Gathering, Dr. Curtis Swift
presented a program with PowerPoint presentation on the planned "MESA
COUNTY ARBORETUM AT THE GARDENS"
The Arboretum will highlight plant biology, soil preparation and water
use and will augment the existing 26,000 square feet of demonstration
gardens located at the CSU facility. These gardens have been
developed through grants and donations.
This
new addition will be used to highlight unknown and/or generally unused
plant materials that should be incorporated into water-wise gardens
throughout western Colorado and eastern Utah. Segregated into water
regimes from low water use to normal water use, this display will provide
visitors to the site the opportunity to view plant material fitting to a
water-wise landscape.
The
Arboretum will include ADA approved walks and self-guided tour of the
plant materials to facilitate learning by disabled individuals.
This
facility will include an amphitheater where presentations by Master
Gardens and other horticulture and water use experts will be conducted. |
|
The high visibility location of these gardens ensures thousands of
visitors each year and is an effective means of delivering informal
science education.
As with
other gardens, the Arboretum will be funded by donations and maintained by
volunteers. Contributions to the Arboretum can be made in memory of
a loved one, to commemorate an anniversary, to observe a wedding, or to
remember a birthday or other special occasion. Others may wish to
donate simply for the beautifying and cleansing effects of trees, shrubs
and flowers.
