SHADE STRUCTURE
A dedication ceremony of the North Shade Structure at the Colorado State Cooperative Extension office at 2775 Highway 50, Grand Junction, CO. was held October 21, 2005, to acknowledge the Bacon Family Foundation and the Colorado Garden Show, Inc. for the $10,000 grants each awarded to the Western Colorado Gardening Foundation (WCGF). Their contributions are responsible for the unique shade structure installed at The Gardens at the Mesa County Fairgrounds.
This shade structure complements the many gardens surrounding the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension/Clerk and Recorder office complex.
The Shade Structure was designed by Mark Gibbons, Landscapes Specialties of Grand Junction and constructed and installed by Jeff Bates, Sky River Ranch, 1398 16 Road, Fruita, Colorado. On May 13, 2005, the structure was completed and hoisted into place.
This project was a collaboration of the Western
Colorado Gardening Foundation, Colorado State University, Mesa County
Cooperative Extension, Mark Gibbons, Jeff Bates, the Bacon Family Foundation
and the Colorado Garden Show, Inc. The construction of the shade structure
is documented on the web at

The shade structure has been installed on the north side of the Mesa County CSU Cooperative Extension/Motor Vehicle Department complex at the Mesa County Fairgrounds. Now that the structure is in place, vines will be trained up the legs to create even more shade. Grants received from the Bacon Family Foundation and the Colorado Garden Show, Inc. are due to the efforts of the Western Colorado Gardening Foundation.
