The Western Colorado Gardening Foundation (WCGF) is a Colorado nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
The Foundation's
specific purpose, as stated in its Articles of Incorporation, is: The Foundation will raise money to carry out qualifying, gardening related projects and to provide educational programs for members and the general public. The Foundation is a tax exempt, nonprofit public charity qualified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. WCGF is not affiliated with the CSU Cooperative Extension or any other gardening society, council, club or organization. The Foundation's Bylaws prohibit discrimination on any basis. A primary objective of the Foundation is to cultivate cooperative, mutually supportive relationships with other gardening organizations and to pursue possible "partnership" opportunities in planning and completing projects. The Foundation will assist, participate in and contribute to other organization's fundraising activities such as the CSU Master Gardeners' fundraising activities, the Landscapes West Conference and Garden Show, the Botanical Gardens' summer Garden Tour and the Home and Garden Show. The Foundation's outreach efforts will include communication and cooperation with organizations such as CSU Master Gardeners, Desert Vista Garden Club, Chinle Cactus and Succulent Club, The Grand Valley Beautification Council, The Herb Society of America: Colorado West Desert Unit, The Montrose Botanical Society, Grand Valley Rose Society, Western Colorado Bonsai Society and Western Colorado Botanical Society. If no local cooperating organization exists, the Foundation will reach out for input from communities outside of Mesa County by forming "Advisory Councils," "Local Chapters" or similar affiliated groups of WCGF members. The Foundation may also work with governmental agencies for specific projects. For example, we may work with a Municipal Parks Department because of a particular demonstration garden. There is no intent for the Foundation to directly compete with other local gardening organizations for members or for funds or donations. The Foundation will carefully avoid fundraising activities that could be directly competitive with activities already established by other organizations such as the CSU Master Gardeners' Annual Tree and Shrub Auction, the Wreath Making Workshop or the Botanical Gardens' summer Garden Tour. Instead, by relying on the principle of “no scarcity” and trusting in unlimited abundance, the Foundation will seek out new, untapped sources of funding. The Foundation will also make use of proven, traditional fundraising activities. |
